About the Food Label Trial

The Food Label Trial Application is designed exclusively for the Food Label Trial. This study is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia and is headed by Professor Bruce Neal, Senior Director at The George Institute for Global Health which is a part of the University of Sydney.

In this study we are comparing food labels that display nutrition information in different ways. The aim is to find out which type of label is best at helping people make healthier food and drink choices. It will be the first definitive study on food label effectiveness in Australia and the results will be critical to legislative decisions about Food Labelling in this country.

To take part in the study, potential participants need to:
1.Download the app
2.Confirm their eligibility
3.Consent to the Participant Information Sheet and T&Cs
4.And then complete the initial questionnaire.

A total of five different styles of nutrition labels will be tested in the application. Each participant will have access to one type of the nutrition label which will be allocated at random.

Participants will use the Food Label App to scan the barcode on packaged food products to show a food nutrition label. They will then send information about what they purchased during the study to the researchers.

Even though participants will be asked to provide their name and contact details, the shopping information provided during the trial will be anonymous. Participants can withdraw from the trial at any time. A more detailed description about the study is available in the app and can also be obtained by emailing [email protected].
